windows xp start up problem

my os is xp media center.

I also have deamon tools installed, and i know this can interfere with a certain system file which has implications on the start up of the os.

My plan was to boot up windows from the disk, then simply locate deamon tools, and delete the necessary files.

The problem i'm having though is when the 'press any key to boot from cd...' screen appears, i press any key..... but nothing happens. Nothing at all.

There is nothing wrong with the cd, and i've never had this problem before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

usb keyboard?

either use a ps2 one, or go into bios and look for USB legacy mode.., set it to BIOS, instead of OS (naming changes with different motherboard manufacturers)

Sorry, the keyboard works fine. It is a ps2 one also.

I've also tried this routine with different windows xp (xp64, xp sp1) disks, and the screen just pauses on the 'press any key...' stage.

hmm, sounds weird dont have any usb keys plugged in or anything? might be trying to read them or something at same time..?

yeah i tried safe mode but like i said it messes with a system file, so it doesn't load up on safe mode.

it's working now though. i've done nothing different apart from leave it on the press any key screen for about 30 minutes and it's working now... well not working, but at least i can go delete that files now. hopefully itll work now.
