The gf wants to get a copy of Windows XP on a student license while she is still at uni, but having had a search the only thing on sale anywhere online seems to be an upgrade, not a full version? Anyone know if it actually exists?

Cheers :)

Some uni's do whats called the microsoft academic alliance which allows students to download software for free, including xp. She might have to be part of an engineering or IT faculty though (you do in our uni)

Firstly, for the MSND-AA program the student muct be enrolled on a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) course. As soon as you finish or change course that is not part of the MSDNAA program, you must uninstall all software obtained under the program.

Also, note this restriction:

Microsoft Windows may only be installed to facilitate the use of other MSDNAA software and technologies such as Microsoft Visual Studio .NET for instruction or research.

Be sure to order a qualifying hardware item with your OEM copy of Windows, if I remember correctly mice don't count ;)

You no longer need to buy an OEM licence with qualifying hardware. ;)

Fair enough :)

Guess they figured it was too confusing.

Edit: Apparently you do need to by hardware with your OEM licence, they've just relaxed the number of times it can be activated.
