Windows XP svchost.exe using almost 100% CPU

I turn on my laptop today to find it really slow. Task manager showed me that svchost.exe is taking up almost 100% CPU and now my CPU usage has been at a constant 100% for a couple of hours. I've looked on the internet and tried the MS patch, disabling MS Update but nothing works It's still at 100%

I really hope you can help because I won't be getting a new laptop until Christmas.
