windows xp, taskbar halting (not loading)

Hi guys,

I have my next door nabs laptop at the moment as it’s seems to have stopped to a grinding halt on start up. (the taskbar seems to not load) its just all blue ,and hugely slow + no wireless settings come online either.

I’ve only managed to recognize that via msconfig / services (excluding ms startup services) and startup if I disable all, it will load up fine, ive gone in to safe mode and it loads fine.

If I enable all of them it goes back to not loading again , ive checked for spy/malware via safe mode and nothing comes up :/

Is there any easy way of getting to finding out what the trouble is? I’ve done a sys restore also.

does ctrl+alt+delete do anything?

nope , only pressing the power button is the only way of shutting it down if i need to

The only way is enabling additional startup services 1 by 1 until you find the culprit....

Yes. Maybe disable anti-spyware and any norton products first....

he does have norton on here which i was going to delete heh

shall i just go direct to Startup programs or take a look at services tab also?

use msconfig /services to find the culprit program, when you've found it then uninstall it.

I've stopped using Norton products for a while now. McAfee for the win, less problems and less memory/cpu usage.
