Windows XP theme?

Hullo

I'm running windows XP, but for the last year or so I have been using the "windows classic" appereance/theme. Which has been fine, but just recently, I have gotten fed up with it, it being quite dull.

However when I attempt to return to "windows XP style" (from Right click desktop > properties > themes) nothing happens... additoinaly there is no "XP style" option in RMB Desktop > properties > apperiance > drop down menu that contains "windows classic"

I seem stuck in Windows "classic mode"

I did a quick google, and found lots of outdated information, concearning corrupted UXTheme.dll or something?

Just wondered if anyone had experienced this themselves, and/or knows a pain free way of getting the colourful "XP style" bar, and start menu back

I have in the past, used modified themes.

start, run, services.msc

check that the 'themes' service is running and the startup type is set to automatic.

dump your xp cd in the drive, goto start, run,

sfc /scannow

this will replace any hacked uxtheme file with the original file. at least that'll get you back to square one with the xp fisher price themes...

you can change the colours of the Windows classic you know.

ya I realise this

But I miss the start menu, mine is super basic at the moment.

I can use custom themes, to brighten things up.

But I would like to get the "XP default style" working again, just because I hate having something broken, and if somethings unavaliable I want it twice as much.

nope. although if you have any other hacked windows system files, they too will be replaced with the originals...

arf ran that scan thing, after finaly locating the CD

Rebooted, and my graphics drivers have just disapeard. Sound has stopped working and i have a yellow ! mark next to "pnp bios extension" in hardware manager

and xp styles still arnt there

wish i hadnt bothered =/

sorry. i've used that procedure before and have never had that happen. hopefully a simple driver re-install will fix that for you. apologies once again....

No idea what yellow ! mark next to "PbP BIOS Extension" not even sure what that does, but it sounds important

And still no XP style windows!

I must have really messed something up in the past

If the computer turns on, its not that important

If in were PnP I would say its plug and play... maybe you should try to re-install your mother board drivers or something?
