Hi,

Just allowed windows to perform its ''Hotfixes'' on an Acer Travelmate 650 to find afterwards that the keyboard and mouse wont operate in windows anymore.

I've removed the hotfixes (using system restore) and tried removing / re-installing the synaptics pointing device drivers to no avail - does anyone have any other ideas on how to fix this please? I'd prefer not to do a re-install as its a business laptop with lots of stuff on it and the CDs are not available for most of it...

Cheers,

M

I never do Auto updates. If you do then it would be best to choose to install them yourself that automatically.

Unfortunately not - due to a driver uninstall (that didn't work correctly) I now have what seems to be a partially installed driver and an unknown device (the touchpad). I can't re-install the drivers as the driver reports a 'serious internal error'', which I know there isn't one as both touchpad and keyboard work just fine in safe mode.

Looks like a full re-install. :(

Thanks anyways.

Installing auto or manually - they still install. The only difference you could make is by choosing when you install or not to install, neither of which would alter the outcome if you get a duff update.

Thanks for comment tho.

Hmmm...

Rolling back the driver just got the touchpad working - not working for the keyboard though (it reckons it doesnt have a driver to Roll back to).

Getting there it seems... :)

I meant, i 'Never' install them. Period. Never have. Benn computing for 14 years and never had an issue. All bloated BS by microsoft as far as i am concerned. If you want to download them then do so. I don't.
