Hi folks,

My Windows XP system will not shut down correctly. When I click on 'start' and select 'turn off computer' I get the egg timer and my system seems to hang. I can press CTRL+ALT+DEL and choose shutdown from this menu but after 2-3 attempts, the PC will go to the 'windows is shutting down' screen and hang there, forcing me to power off or manually reset.

It is very frustrating as it is a relatively new build (only a week old). I have also tried system restore but it failed to restore to an earlier time.

Is there some kind of software I can get that will repair this?

Many thanks

you running SP2?

try windows update, update drivers,

have you tried leaving it for say 30 mins to see if it does shut down?
