windows xp woes

turned my pc on today, it wont get past the windows loading screen, was fine yesterday :confused:

it will boot up in safe mode tho, what shall i do first ?

Check the event viewer and see if there are any error logs.

Try a system restore (if you have it enabled).

Run "sfc /scannow" from the run box.

Boot from the windows installer CD and go to the recovery console and type "fixboot" and "fixmbr".

If all else fails, run a repair install from the CD.

ok mate, do you mean 'system restore' as in from the menu that you can choose safe mode and 'last known settings that work' or is this an option somwhere in CP. btw i do have system restore enabled

Yes You can try the last known good menu option first other than that he means system restore from my computer if you have it enabled try Otherwise look at the logs to see if there is a problem highlighted .. failing that try a Master boot recovery via the dos commands in the previous post ..
