I installed windows7 Pro last month and the I was worried about my harddrive due to an error message I recieved so I didn't register my copy of windows. The 30day registration period passed last week and over the last few days different features have been deactivated e.g. cant open pdf or msn which i thought was just a feature to make me register windows. Today however it got even worse, wireless disabled and desktop wasnt appearing and startbar was in windows98 display mode so I finally went on MSDN and got the serial and verified my copy of windows.

It says it genuine(windows7 professional) however my windows is now completely messed up, it cant find the desktop icons, wont load any of the startup programs and many of the main services arent starting automatically (e.g. wireless), also some programs such as firefox won't load, I've tried restarting and it says it hasnt kept any system restore points  , anyone ever heard of anything like this happening before?

I'd just reinstall it to be honest. You could have reactivated your copy without any problems even if your hard disk did die. Changing motherboard is usually the trigger for reactivation and it will affect your differently depending on what license you're using.

I have had a copy of windows go past the 30-day limit and it didn't mess up like yours did. It just kept bugging me on logon until I finally got bored and entered the key! Sounds like you have a virus or a corrupt install that is dieing.

That's what I'm thinking too, just thought it was microsoft due to the timing but after searching online it seems like it has nothing to do with it, gonna try a fresh install later and start again.
Thanks a lot for all your help
