Windproof letterbox

Pointless getting spending the cash on a new letter plate, if your going to be replacing the door.
I solved the same problem at my last house by gluing a metal strip on the reverse side of the flap, it was just enough weight to stop the plate flapping.

Is the flap not sprung? If not, get a sprung one.

I fited a new letterbox into our upvc door before xmas. sprung flap both sides and quite a stiff set of draught excluding bristles. Cost me about £10 from somewhere online.

resurrection of an old thread :p

Got the same problem, upvc door, when its blowing a gale, clack!, clack!, bloody clack!

Its one of these buggers :-

im sick to death of taping the ****, as i have to keep untaping it all the time for the postman, so want a new one, or just a plate for the outside will do, 305mm x 65mm, anyone got any ideas ?

Screw fix still has them it was easy to fit the springs are very strong on it, the internal flap has foam padding to help stop any noise from the flap closing. I get strong winds blow in directly off a field and this flap doesn't bang around at all

Thanks guys, i took it off today, to give it a good measure, and the one that seems to be about the same sizes, is this one (might just have to trim the sleeve a bit ever so slightly, so it'll fit the aperture, which it says you can do) plus its the same 3x screws each side like mine, so will pop over tomorrow, to have a proper look :)

I initially used one of those cupboard magnet catches and just glued a magnetic strip to the inside of the flap to give the magnet something to attract.

I've since installed a large metal postbox on the wall next to the front door and I'll be filling the letterbox completely :D Either upvc option or I'll build a wooden insert with our house number on it.

Got it today,and fitted it.

Didn't have to trim the sleeve, as it fitted the aperture no problem, just had to widen the screw holes a bit.

It does feel stiffer, so hopefully, no more clacking!, will just have to see how it goes :p

EDIT: ******* down now, and no leaks :D

you could just stick a very small rag in the letter box. so it hits off the rag muffling the sound. or tape some material to the back of the flap so it muffles the sound. much cheaper solution than buying a new one and you can't see it as it's hidden by the flap.

I tried all sorts to sort it, but only taping it shut worked.

I found that those flaps you screw on the back of your door to cover the letterbox work okay. Until the next package or large envelope is rammed through the letterbox and snaps it.

I really need a bigger windproof draught excluder for my letterbox to stop this happening, but I can't find any.
