Windproofing a 9"x3" vent?

Hey guys, My kitchen extract fan produces a very noticeable draft due to the high level location of the vent coupled with the general windyness of our street, and it really cools the room down and can make it a pain to heat.

I was looking at getting a windproof vent cover, but all I can find are square vent covers (Example) rather than the brick shaped ones.

The only options seem to be adjustable ones which will still let the wind through, or the hooded covers such as this which I dont think will be particularly effective either.

Anyone know of anything that will do the job?

Those look just the job but still not in the right size unfortunately. It may be because its a shared duct that its the shape it is, my duct travels upstairs to the apartment above and both kitchens share the same vent. Can only assume its this sort of system in place as the duct for my upstairs neighbour travels upwards before coming out of the wall.

Brick size is usually 215x75mm, what is the actual size your after?

Do you want to remove existing vent & replace with a gravity cowled vent, or fit a cover over present vent.

Just fit a cover would do. Vent size is 229x76, the cover you linked to only seems to be for 110x54 vents unless im missing something?

You could fit a slightly larger cowl vent, like Rytons 9x6 Cowl vent, that would putting the opening quite a bit lower, & I would think deflect the draft from the wind.

Well ive taken the vent cover off to have a look behind it and it is indeed a brick shaped duct exit, so cant replace the current cover with anything normal shaped. Yeah Im considering the 9x6 cowls, I could probably make a bodged gravity flap myself easily enough for it for extra wind protection.

Edit - Screw it, ordered one! Thanks for the help Nightglow :)

I had the same problem and fitted one of those gravity flap vents and a cowl and it is still pretty draughty when its windy. There is also a spring loaded back draught gizmo in the extractor which seems to do nothing.

Hope you have better results.
