I've never had to really deal with windscreens before but as my car is rapidly approaching is MOT I have a query.

Thanks to the little "darlings" of the scumbags that live near me throwing stones I have a small chip in my windscreen that appears to have "spidered".

The chip:

It's location in relation to driving position:

Am I right in thinking I need to fork out £200 to get it replaced? (no windscreen cover, yes I'm an idiot)

Cheers

I've emailed autoglass for a quote. According to their flash presentation if it's the size of a £2 coin or less and outside zone A then it should be fixable.

Edit: 28mm at widest point. I think at end of the month I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and have them out. I'm not using the car till next month now so I should be ok.

From that picture it doesn't look in your critical area but i'd probably want to get it changed as once it starts to crack like that i'll only get worse.

28mm across then it won't be repairable and 25mm is the maximum repairable by AutoGlass standards in the 'C' zone (Passenger wiper sweep).

Perfectly safe to drive as is though.

I didn't think such a policy existed without windscreen cover? I don't think I have ever not had it. Are you sure it's not there?

It's usually a preselected option like legal cover that you can uptick to make the premium lower. Windscreen cover is ~£26 and the excess is ~£75 which is the cost of your average shopping car's pattern screen and fitting from a non-insurer-united windscreen company anyway - but that doesn't mean I'm against it, quite the contrary.

As above, I'd unticked it to see what the difference was. Unfortunately I neglected to retick it and proceeded with the policy. I realised when the policy documents came through but to add it they wanted close to 130 quid with all the "admin" fees so I chose to chance it for a year.
