Hi,

Had a great day today, nice stone hitting my car windscreen at 90 odd mph. Made a nice dent in the windscreen which wasn't to bad until later on that night I needed to clean the screen, popped on the front washers to see a massive crack go right accross the front of the window. :(.

Anyone know of a good windscreen place?

What kind of cost am I looking at for a 00 Fiesta Zetec S?

My fully comp insurance covered my Rover when some ***** kids threw a stone at it

Booked it in with RAC windscreens which cost about £60.

Arh thats good to know. I thought it went as a claim. Although my insurance is only FPFT. I also have high excesses, will have to give them a ring tomorrow.

you can but with most insurance companies its a £50-£60 excess to pay.. (typically you dont lose your ncb though).

A lot of companies don't give you windscreen and glas cover when you are TPF&T.

I used Autoglass when I had a passenger window go on me heading down to Berkshire on the M40. No idea of cost but they did a good job, and I know a few people who have used them.

For TP or TPFT it's not covered - but for mine I added it for an extra tenner a month just in case... but then the excess worked out to be £100 and a new windscreen for my mk4 astra was £110... so no point there then!

But you're looking at £100+ mark, more if it's got that sun strip on it. Why don't you give RAC windscreens a call and ask for a quote?

Doubt its covered on TPF&T, having mine done again, UV heat reflective with built in Auto wiper sensor, expensive screen to buy good job i won't be paying a single penny this time, for the reccord direct lines charge is £60 for a replacment item fixing a crack is free and it won't effect your no claims or get marked down as a claim.

iirc cracks cannot be fixed as they can grow.. stone chips (depending on its size and position in the "visual zone") can however be filled with "liquid glass" then buffed down to make it visually smaller and much safer.

Correct, my slight misswording, i ment chip not crack ;)

Cracks spread, chips if delt with early enough won't.

cracks can be repaired , whether they choose to is another matter. it involves drilling a hole 5mm further on than the crack and leading it into it then filling and tracing the crack. when i was trained some years back i remember the guy doing a 2 foot crack on a screen and it being invisible.

Definately ring around. I haven't got windscreen cover, because I've only got TPF&T.

Autoglass wanted £235 for a new windscreen for my 205. RAC Autowindscreens charged £65.

Phoned NU today, apparently im fully comp which is nice as its only 60 squids to get a full screen replaced.

RAC windscreen are coming out to repair it on Sunday.
