Windscreen replacement

So, my windscreen is in a bad state. My main issue is the really bad wiper scratches all over the swept area, bad enough to cause visibility problems with the low sun these days. There's a small chip outside the swept area and there is de-lamination on the o/s edge.
Now, I have windscreen cover on my insurance, but will this cover replacing it even though it isn't actually broken? If so, what is the procedure for getting it done?

Throw a stone at it, one just big enough to crack (rather than chip) it, but not big enough to seriously damage it, and call Autoglass or whoever

shoot it with an air rifle. They have to replace it if it has a hole through it.

This, BUT put a thick blanket on the bonnet and roof as a mate did it and missed the screen and put a dink in the roof. :rolleyes:

I take it by this that it'll need to be properly broken before they will replace it. Assuming that a halfwit thug vandal were to smash the window, what then is the procedure?
Do the screen places fit cheap pattern screens? I'd really like a genuine OEM one.

If the screen is damaged enough for a replacement (or you request a replacement due to the damage) with regard to insurance you phone them up and tell them it's damaged, they put you through to a windscreen company.

Most screens are produced by the same company from what I've understood so 'cheap pattern screens' don't exactly exist, but you'll get autoglass or whoever coming out and replacing it for you.

I'd suggest checking how much it is to get it done without insurance first, as it can be cheaper than the windscreen excess on some cars, making the insurance route pointless.
