Hi All,

Just thought i'd make a quick post to big up a company.

Was driving to work the other morning about 7AM on a dual carriageway.

A big rubble lorry was on the left lane about to turn left out of the dual carriageway.
I was in the overtaking lane... Them BANG! something hit my screen. Not sure if it was off the lorry itself or from the road and flicked up. Couldn't see a great deal as it was still dark.

Got to work and seen a lovely crack from the middle of the screen all the way across to the left and it branched off about 1/4 up the screen as well.

I did not get the plate of the truck as when he left the carriageway i was on the outside lane and was at such a angle i could only see the side of the truck.

Anyway, one of them things! I'm only 3rf party fire and theft... But i was sure i had windscreen cover. After speaking with my insurance company i didn't have it.

So i called highway glassline (Partners with auto glass) They quoted me £475 at first... Then got it down to £450.

I can't afford that... So did a bit of internet shopping.

Auto windscreens £235.85
Auto Screen £202.68
The screen saver windscreens £226.80

Then National Windscreens £174.74 all in inc VAT.

I seen a few review on the net with some people moaning...

However, so far so good for me... The guy got to the house by 09:30 this morning... Did the screen replacement within 40 minutes. And said please wait for one hour before you use the car and also please don't use a jet wash or anything for the next four days.

The guy was sound and was with another chap. The screen they've installed looks spotless and has everything my old on did with the sun screen at the top. By the way my car is a 03 Hyundai getz sport.

I had a quick look over at the seals and such before paying out and I'm no expert but it looks good.

Can only hope that it'll not leak in the future...

So if you're not fully comp and need to get your screen replaced. As of now i'd recommend National Windscreens 0800 622 122

In my experience nice people on the phone and in person. Very quick and seems to be quality glass.

Come renewal time I'll try and go fully comp or see if i can add a few quid for windscreen cover.

Thanks,

Liam

The fact you could not get the trucks details is neither here nor there imo, you said it yourself, you don't know where the stone / whatever came from so how could you think its the trucks fault?

Personal gripe of mine, I've had issues with people claiming my truck has caused a windscreen chip in the past. prove it, they could not.

Some pretty wild variations on screen prices there!

I bet your TPF&T insurance policy does not seem quite so cheap now......... Food for thought come renewal time if I were you mate. :)

At no point did i say it was the truck at fault... However, The truck was the only thing in front of me.

Either way it come from the truck to me... whether that was the back of the truck or something from the road I'm not sure at all... It was dark.

I don't think it's all down to if i should go fully comp / TPF&T. More a case of check my policy.

My first insurance company was Endsleigh (again TPF&T) But they included windscreen cover...

I've never bothered with fully comp since driving (almost four years) as i've never really had the need... Most costly car i've ever had was a £2k clio. The rest have been little sub £500 bangers. And now i have a £1,500 Getz.

Just don't see the need... Will wait for renewal this year and see what the damage will be.

All in all, Auto glass is way to expensive. And the lowest cost company that did the work has provided me with a great service... :)

I think the point the poster was making was along the lines of:

You could have been travelling in broad daylight, down a single track road following a truck.
No other traffic for a 10 mile radius.
A stone flicks up and cracks your windows. The truck stops for a second, his numberplate lights up so you can see every single character on it.

You're chance of making a successful claim against the truck/driver is pretty much nil. I've heard of the odd person claiming they made a calim against someone with regards a stone flick.
I've never seen any kind of proof showing anyone has successfully made such a claim.
