Hello,

I have got a Fiat Punto Sporting, its a 2000 W reg.

I am having problems with the windscreen wipers and no idea whats causing it.

I have just replaced the wiperblades but the problem is still happening.

I have 3 settings for wiper speed,

1- slow
2-middle
3-fast

The problem occurs mainly on the first setting. But it does happening on the faster settings. It seems the faster the wipers go it helps to smooth out the wiping motion.

The problem is that the wiperblades dont run smooth, they keep jumping when wiping. Its hard to explain but they dont wipe in a smooth motion. Its like there sticking and jumping. It dont clear the screen correctly and leaves mess all over it.

Anyone got any idea what could be causing it ?

Thanks Ben

Get some malt vinegar and old newspaper - apply the vingear directly to the screen and rub it off with the newspaper. This will strip all the grease off the screen and should make the wipers run smoother.

If its not that, the blades are probably running at the wrong angle to the screen. You need to twist the wiper arms to adjust this.

Does the same thing happen when the car is stationary?

You could get some new blades to see if that helps. You can get Bosch super plus ones for about a tenner if you shop around.

Sometimes if the linkage between the two wiper blades is rusty or partially seized it can cause the wipers to jump. Have a look at it and stick a bit of WD40 in there.

Whats this linkage u talk about ? how can i find it ?

I don't know if it's the same on all cars but my car has a metal bar connecting the two wiper blades at the base to keep them in sync. If the bolts become a bit rusted it can make the wipers stick and jump. You might need to lift the bonnet to get to it.
