Love them. Composition wise I think you've done really well. Its quite hard to get a good photo here that really pays more attention to the foreground.

Congleton is my hometown and I live 15mins bike ride away from this so its nice to see work from my humble town :)

How on earth did you take them, assuming it was as windy there as it was here? I had to chase my bin down the road twice :D No vibration on the tripod, or was in indoors, or in a car?

I like the first one. It's almost like a tilt shift shot :)

No you misunderstood what I was asking. The image isn't showing any sign of shake, and in high winds like we've been seeing around here, I'd never get a shot that sharp. I was asking how the shot was stabilised :)

I tried something similar years ago, but got a considerable amount of blur due to the vibration through the tripod.

cheers for the feed back chaps, In answer to ElDude i did use a Giottos tripod, i spread the legs wide and stood next to it to give some shelter from the gusts of wind. It was 30sec at f11 and the main problem was traffic. Although most cars dont show in the shot if they are moveing any vans that stop to give way will and at 30 secs you cant predict that well.

Put it in the best shelter you can find, if possible, and hang something heavy (without breaking the tripod) underneath the camera. Many tripods will have a hook on the bottom of the centre column for exactly this purpose.

Really love the first one, however only complaint i have is the exposure could be upped just ever so slightly.

What sort of ND filter were you using for this?

I really like your set! It's all interesting and different, and it does make you look twice. #1 is the best in my opinion, it's a bit of a shame it doesn't have the sky of #2, but great shot still!

What lens did you use? I really like #1 I think with the sky it does a great job of capturing the weather conditions.

i used my cannon 17-85 kit lens, its very sharp from f6 to f11 but does distort a lot up to around 24mm. Its simple to correct the distortion in cannon dpp software so i have found it to be a great lens for general walkaround and landscape shots.

tkx slothmeister, i think my shots did end up about 1 stop under exposed so i will adjust for next time. The filter is a lens from a welding mask avilable from most car spares suppliers for about £3. You need to compose your shot and set the focus befor you fit it to the lens as once its on you cannot see through. I fixed it to the lens with a ring of bluetak. The cameras light meter is fooled so exposure is down to manual so i take a few shots and use the histogram to get it something like. The lens causes a green cast to the shots so it shoot raw and adjust the white balance in post useing the eye droper tool on a light grey area in the shot. I find it good fun to try & get different effects
