I'll just copy and paste what I've said before in the last thread like this:
Wine is very difficult to buy for someone unless you know specifically what they like. It's very easy to spend silly money on a rubbish bottle too. £30 could get you a bottle no better than a £5 bottle from the supermarket in some cases.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is very much a 'name drop' wine that people suggest all the time because it has a cool name. There's some cheap and nasty ones out there, so buy from a quality wine merchant. Shops like Majestic sometimes have a person that is clued up and really knows what they're talking about so it's well worth enquiring, but I generally find small merchants to be better than these large chains. I've found Tesco have some very good quality and well priced wine too.
If you can, try and find out what they like. If you can't, then don't spend £60 on it. I'd hate to be bought some wine that was fairly expensive but tastes rubbish.
