Hi

Looking to do some beginner- level wine tasting with the GF, just learning how to taste wine, what to look for in a good wine, etc, etc, etc... can anyone reccommend a decent half day/ 1 day course? I have seen them with Virgin Experiences etc, but I know these are usually overpriced... so any suggestions as to where to book greatly appreciated

Thanks

The one at Vinopolis is very good according to my best friend and I think he was recommended by his step-dad who used to be secretary in the Wine Society. I'd start with new world or French wines, just my opinion but I think you'll enjoy them more to start with :)

If there is a big wine stockist (and no, your local offy doesnt count) near you they might do special wine tasting events etc... or atleast know of some i would imagine.

Tasting win without the perpose of getting drunk, is like cafine free coffee, POINTLESS

i used to have this view before i did a wine tasting course... it is really worth it, allows you to tell the difference between wines which i never got untill the guy explained it all to me.

i really liked the one i went on, they also did chees at the same time :D

I did one with the missus with a company called wine unearthed at a great restaurant in Birmingham. Not cheap but a great day out, it was £85 each.

Another vote for Vinopolis, you can spend the other half of the day at Borough Market while you're there.

Agreed. And doubly so for browsing Borough before or after. When me and the girlfriend went we got an 'upgrade' so we could do the whisky tasting too. We didnt realise we also got a free gin cocktail halfway through. We came out at 1pm fairly sloshed :p

It was good but i didnt really take it all in. The only thing i can really remember for sure is that Thai and Chinese wines are foul! The guyd working there gave us back our tokens because they felt guilty letting us spend them on those wines!

Cool, thanks guys, will look at Vinopolis :)

I am a fan on Spanish wines, so would really enjoy learning more about those in particular.
