Hi I love Fifa06, and am thinking about venturing off to Konami's offering. Pro Evolution Soccer.

What I don't know though is am I better off with the PS2 or XBOX version?

My reasoning behind this is, online gaming. I want to be always able to pick it up and find an online opponent. I know both offer online play, but as with some of these games these days, it's no good if you are the only person online at that very time.. Actually comes to think of it, is there anywhere that publishes the amount of online players on for that particular game? That would be a good site ! Certainly help when deciding which version to buy, Nintento does it for Mario Kart.

Not sure about the numbers or anything, but I'd have thought the xbox version would be the best bet, as it's integrated with xbox Live, though somewhat not brilliantly If I recall correctly. Downside I guess is unless you already have Xbox Live, you're going to have to go out and pay for it, wheras the PS2 version is free to play online I think.

PS2 online is free and there's absolutely LOADS of people online, though expect a lot to move on to PES6 in October.

I also think the PS2 controller is much more suited to PES than the original XBOX controller. 360 controller should be fine if you're running it emulated though.

I now live in the USA, meaning that I will be playing the 60hz Winning Eleven9. On your PS2 ver, do you get to play people from all around the world? or only those playing on PAL systems?

Thanks

I've ended up playing against French/German/Italians etc. but I can't recall ever seeing an American on there.

Surely Winning Eleven 10 would be better? Not sure if it's had a US release yet but it's been out in Japan for ages and is much better than PES5.

PES5 on the ps2 is the best way to play online in the UK at the moment. I have the xbox and pc versions and honestly, I don't like them and believe them to be inferior for a number of reasons. Plus the PS2 has infinitely more players online.

PES6 should rule all when it comes out though. I'll be getting it on PS2 and i'll try the 360 version although due to me being a dpad player I suspect it'll be dodgy on the normal pad.

PES is for pal people, WE is for NTSC crew. Although apparently it is possible to play PES online from America, no doubt with nasty lag.

Interesting subject this, I do see lots of British on Fifa, well 10% of the 20 or so players on line, everytime I play. But being that it's on XBOX and the xbox is better designed for PAL60. I guess NTSC and PAL60 players can play each other.. Don't think PS2 is PAL60? or I could be wrong.

Winning Nine Eleven is not very popular here, Fifa is more so, and probably because of the South American rising population. Unfortunatley WE10 is not out here yet, only 9... Eitherway I've just ordered it, so i'll give it a try... Might even see you on the field !

On my PS2 (PAL) version of PES5 there's an option for PAL (50) or NTSC (60) and I always run it @ NTSC, but it doesn't seem to make a difference as to who you can play against unlike some other games.
