I have never been to a casino before but recently i have started going with a friend, in the beginning i just watched but then playing blackjack looked like a lot of fun. anyway, once i learnt the rules and when u should double and when u should stick i became pretty good at it. In fact the other night was my first time playing. I took out £100 in £25 chips and bet at a £25 min bet table. A few hours later i was £800 up and hence walked out with a total of £900!!!!

anyone else got any experience playing black jack or any other casino games and if so whats the most that u have won!

Wow thats amazing!
Im quite good at BJ, but I have never played on a table with a stake above £5. Max ive won was £70, most ive lost was £30. Ive been playing for a year (going a few times a month) and im only £300 up. So £800 from one night is very good.

I played a bit on William Hill online. My first time, I started with £50 and had a £25 start bonus.
I was up to £880 at one point but couldn't quit as I had to play so much to qualify for the bonus.

I ended up with £450 when I was finally able to quit - not too shabby.

I've won little bits back and forth but started losing so packed it in.

I ended up about £300 up altogether.

Stan :)

My cousin once went with my mate. He was skint, so he borrowed £30 off said mate, to play roulette. He paid his £30 back, and walked out with £1100.

They then went to Blackpool, (in the middle of the night) for a few days.

Keep going back and you'll be £900 down, that, I promise you.

You've won £800, I'd be happy with it. Casino's win in the long run, always.

exactly, quit while you are ahead. The false thinking that you'll win next time is what will you into debts.

I went to a Casino for the first time ever last night, won a massive £8 overall! :p

My friend's lost hundreds - so I was quite pleased to walk away with anything :D

Went to the the Grosvenor Casino in Brighton last night, some guy walks up to the roulette table dumps a wad of notes on the table, £400 to be exact!

places his £25 chips on the table, 1st spin.....wins nothing!

then throws another wad of notes on the table, again £400! second spin of the wheel; wins nothing!

he must've thought by this time if i put another wad on the table that i'm bound to win it big, so he lays down £300 worth of chips on the table!

third spin, you guessed it, he doesn't win a thing!

moral of the story.....Why cant i afford to throw that much money around and as some of you have already stated Casino's always win!

Fun when you win, but don't fall into the age old addiction trap. It sneaks up on you like you would never believe. Enjoy your winnings and be done with the gambling. If you can do that you may well be only only man in history to enjoy a net profit from a casino.

Whilst that's true of most casino games, blackjack is one of the few where you can reduce the house's advantage drastically (and even reverse it) with strategy. Read up on card counting, it's pretty damn interesting.

Edit: Yeah, here we go:

Edward Oakley Thorp is famous for his book "Beat the Dealer" in which he was the first to prove a mathematical system for beating blackjack by card counting. The technique shifted the advantage from ~5% for the house, to around a percent or so for the player.

I watched a documentary on a few years back about some MIT students that made an absolute killing doing it.

Problem is if the casino catches you doing it your in for a roasting. And if you ever decide to go into the casino or any others you'll get a nice 7ft man to escort you home. :p

I watched the documentary on the BBC a while ago about it. All i can say is casinos are really sore loosers, if people start winning lots they change the way the game is played, add new rules or throw you out.

EDIT: link to the BBC program here

Catches you doing what? It's not cheating and it's impossible to detect (other than by seeing someone win a lot).

Yeah i seen a program on bravo about Card Counting, thing is they are not cheating, there using the rules that the casino sets.

I think card counting is now illegal in the US and i assume it may be here as well. Even if its no they will chuck you out anyway. Have a read of the link i posted^^

It's not illegal and that link says nothing to the contrary.

They can ban known counters from the casinos but they can't ban counting.

Counting is against the house rules of most casinos. Seen the vice bit in the Scorcese film of the same name? Not exactly what they'll do but.....
