Hi,

Mate at work has got infected with the winpc antivirus. Googled removal instructions and have got several different methods of removing it - each site mentions remocing different files/reg keys.

Has anyone got a definate list of removal instructions?

Thanks

EDIT: weird thing is that a fully updated AVG didn't catch this :/

I don't think it is really a 'virus', which may be why AVG doesn't pick it up. Although, I'm sure some people will come in and tell you to remove AVG and replace it with Avira or Avast ;)

WinPC is a scam application, that pretends to be a genuine anti-virus program, and then it 'detects' threats to your system (that obviously don't really exist).

It then tries to get you to buy the 'full version' telling you that it will be able to remove the 'threats'.

Try a scan with MalwareBytes, apparently it should be able to remove it, which should be easier than doing it manually.

Malwarebytes is a great bit of software as just used to remove System Security 2009 and Internet Anti Virus from mates pc
