Let me just start by saying i would never ever use the above PSU in my PC. Anyhow im building a PC for someone whos providing all the components and im just putting together. Rig is based around a 2600K and GTX 470.

Am i right in thinking this PSU is just a bad idea?

End of the day its not my PC but i dont want this guys PC blowing up 2-3 months down the line. I know the GTX 470 are power hungry monsters plus CPU will be clocked to around 4.8GHz.

Very, very bad.

It might be OK for a cheap PC to surf the net but not for an overclocked 2600K and a GTX 470.

It probably doesn't even have enough amps on the 12V to run that setup at load.

£30 PSU + £400 worth of CPU & GPU = possibly expensive fail.

That exactly what ive just told him, £1000 rig and £30 PSU. Feel for the guy though, must be trying to save some cash and knows absolutely nothing about PC's

Ive got an old Thermaltake 850W modular unit, that im asuming would be a much better idea?

Yes its perfect working order, just pulled it from my spare rig. I could sell for around £60 2nd hand but will offer it to him for £50 and tell him to return the WinPower (lol WinPower)
