Winter 2020/2021

Locally I think that is possible - if the Arpege is right there are some pretty crazy streamers but they'll only catch a narrow corridor.

I remember one particular year it was forecasted to have nearly 30, and there was a "RED WARNING" danger to life etc. It never snowed and in fact rained :D

Unless things change dramatically looks like some parts of Norfolk are in for quite a ride and narrow corridors across the Midlands and Wales as well.

Sadly looks like it will largely stop before me in the South West :(

Regardless of snow, the mornings are forecast to be bitter this coming week in Southampton and the max temp barely making zero, "feels like" -5C tomorrow and then a run of -8C for a few days!

The BBC forecast map is hilarious, there's a massive band of snow that as time goes on, seems to be desperately avoiding Southampton at all costs! It's so close but looks like there's an invisible forcefield around the city going NO, GO AWAY :D

Bit of low pressure to the south of us which is spoiling things for the south and south west a bit :( though its exact movement isn't nailed down.

I see tonight's snow being washed out here but it says it's snowing all day tomorrow with heavy snow all night tommorow.

All I need for a commute home!

Models are brilliant this morning

Breakdown of the cold around Thurs/Friday is now looking less likely. They are now showing some potentially record breaking high pressure building over us and then heading to Scandinavia setting up another beast from the east. If this happens this month could be competing with December 2010!

Dunno what is going to happen over the next few days - with these SSW type events going on the models seem to struggle - but I think it likely this winter is far from over - the amount of polar disruption and to an extent still on going is going to drive some weather extremes and probably at least one more cold spell IMO.

Possibility for some streamers into the west with troughs popping up on radar with little warning over the next few days away from the east / south east, OCUK land is marginal tonight but not looking promising.

In terms of next weekend the models are toying (with some support too) the idea of a scandi high building over the UK, with the correct placement the door would be open to the substantial cold pool to our east. Some of the 2m and 850 temps over eastern europe currently and modelled for the week are impressive.

Brilliant innit. Met office showing light snow for 6 to 8 hours after midnight tonight but doubt will get even a light dusting. For a snow lover, this place is crap. We only get it when we get an event like The Day After Tomorrow above the UK.

EDIT....Just changed again, now we getting NOWT

The amount of Winter threads I've done on OCUK and this one is actually happening!

Arpege & Arome still showing mostly rain for tonight into the early hours, 2m temps between 2-3c for Stoke. Places like Mow Cop and the moorlands will see snow though.

Next weekend looks ridiculous, seriously epic model runs for deep cold and heavy snow, just waiting for the ECM now to hopefully be onboard still!

Streamer alert for OCUK land from 5am Monday morning, quite a few reloads too throughout the day

It is actually feeling mild here despite a cold start to the day - though still around 24 hours until the cold is projected to reach here anyhow.
