With the nights drawing in and the sunlight becoming limited especially if you work inside do you feel less enthusiastic this time of year?

Someone suggested vitamin D tablets and abstaining from alcohol at least until March !

Do you suffer? Do feel more down than in the summer months ?

I don't get really down but especially as I'm currently back working nights :( so rarely see the sun it is affecting me a little.

I don't find vitamins really help that much but I probably get as much vitamin D as make any odds as far as food sources go from my diet anyhow.

Alcohol wise I actually find drinking a glass of red wine a few nights a week helps though can make me feel extra sluggish sometimes if near bed time (and probably more than one glass).

I can relate mate, get yourself one of those lights for treating people with sad. Even if you don't suffer with that exactly it does help I found.

i know few people who don't at this time of year start getting down for at least a few weeks. it's a mix of dark afternoon/evenings (which is why clocks shouldn't ever change from BST), cold weather, lack of direct sun, and everyone gets sick around this time of year. it's hard not to be down, especially coming from such an amazing summer.

i'm trying to figure out solutions to this, but i'm struggling. we played a lot of sport this year that's not almost all stopped as it was all outdoor sports and no one wants to come out and play when it's cold. going out to be exposed to sun is also hard as although you can get days when it's out, you're wrapped up so much that the exposure is minimal and it's so cold any way.

Thinking to replace the florescent tubes at the office. any one with suggestions as to which may help make the place feel brighter and nicer?

When I was working I personally found it helpful, id set my alarm half hour early and doze with it on. Maybe it was just the placebo effect but it seemed to do something for me.

I’ve literally, since the spring ,spent hours finishing my pond...I was outside after work with a mission in the sunshine and I’m struggling what to replace this with in the winter months..:(

Do these actually work or are they placebo?
Don't see why not. I mean there have been studies that the blue light given off by a mobile screen for example effects the hormones that disrupt sleep patterns. So generally a bad idea to use a device before bed.

Exercise keeps me on an even keel.

Plenty of studies that show exercise is on a par with medication (but without the side effects). Perhaps join a gym to give you something to do on an evening?
