having a bit of trouble with heat so im planning on using some tumble dryer hose, one end on the intake of the pc and the other end under the floor, or out the window to see how things go.

reason there is too much heat is becuase my pc is under a deep desk which is enclosed by 3 walls and very little holes for the heat to escape so really the heat keeps getting recirculated.

my pc is on the ground floor and there is floor boards, just have to cut a small hole in the floor. ill have to put a filter on the hose as its very dirty/dusty/spider infested no doubt, under the floor boards (pre 1950's house)

whats your opinions on this?

I saw the title of this thread and just had to check it out :D. Ive considered sitting my PC on the window sill before with a window open, but I kind of like to see daylight every now and then :p also a crow might fly away with it.

Let us know how it goes if you do go ahead with it, would be interesting :)

Just remember to avoid cutting through Electric/plumbing that might be under there!

Second, the ground floor is usually ventilated with air bricks to allow air to circulate under the floor, you might experience a back draught as cold air is sucked in, especially on a windy day.

What I'm trying to say is that you might just have the reverse and have cold air coming in constantly rather than hot going out.

The best of luck.

iirc there are no cables around that area.

the ground floor is well ventilated in the area in question.

not sure you understand what im trying to do. im going to be using the duct hose to provide a cold air feed for my intake fan. im not trying to remove the hot air from under the desk as hot air naturally rises.

im trying to prevent the intake fans from recirculating the hot air that the exhaust fan is putting out.

sounds like a very good idea, what temp readings are you getting at the moment? would be interesting to see the temp readings before and after.

Hmm.. nice damp air direct into the inards a PC..

p.s. Tip number 1> Get your PC off the carpet and onto a board.

Good idea! But...ya got to take into account damp air / rain...can't be too good for a pc.

Would there be anyway to make sure the air is dry, not damp.

Get a water trap thingy, i think i saw a plasplugs one (or a similar name) in wilkinsons. And put some sort of restrictor on the pipe/line so you can control how much cold air you want. I have thought about this is the past.

where can i get one of them? ive typed in to google, watertrap, but all i see is narrow piped stuff, im looking at hose at 4 or 5 inches wide

Got to love the winter cooling idea. I had it many of times when into overclocking, back in the day. I used to love the winter cold air. Used to take everything out of the case and set up the desk with the rig right next to the window for maxium cold air cooling. On other times, I would go into the actic which was even colder, believe it or not. Had a temp probe up there that read between 4-5 degress C at times.

This what it looked like at times... All that work for 'that' extra MHz that you was aiming for.

I then had the idea of creating a benching platform that was easier to set up the rig on. This is what I came up with.

It was practically placed on the end of my window for many hours of the night, it was fun to say the least. Overclocking with gloves, hat and coat :p

lol @ the hat and coat bit,

looks like a plan but i think im going to go for the MM u2 ufo at some point. ill give the hose idea a go but dont know how long it will stay as im possibly moving in somewhere with the gf, dont think she will aprove and the fact my pc will probably have to be up stairs! :(

i have done this idea with a tumble dryer hose back in spring, i have a 25cm fan on the side of my case so i put a hose to there and i got some tights and put them on the intake side of the hose secured by eleastic band, and wedged it in the window in the direction the wind was blowing, and it dropped cpu temps by 11c :D
