A Dance with Dragons is the fifth of seven planned novels in the epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire by American author George R. R. Martin. On March 3, 2011, publisher Bantam Spectra announced that the novel would be released on July 12, 2011.[1] Martin delivered the more than 1,500-page manuscript to his editor on April 27, 2011.[3] The U. S. hardcover, which includes an index, runs 1040 pages.

Anyone else got this pre-ordered? I haven't waited as long as others (around 2 years). Can't wait to continue the story with some of the fan favorite characters. I'm hoping for lots of big events and death! Hopefully Dany will enter into Westros at last as well.

Got my copy last night. Just stared to read it but it's good to get back the old characters. Is anyone else just seeing the TV characters now when they read it? Not necessarily a bad thing though!

I've still hardly started, shame on me, shame on me. Just been really busy and it fells harder to just sit down in piece and quiet and read a book than say throw on a DVD. I'll have to have a word with myself.

Following on from the TV discussion;

I can't think of the event that you're alluding to. I do wish they'd shown the relationship that develops between Sandor and Sansa in the books (though relationship is a misleading word to describe it).

The event I meant was that in the books it was Sansa who informed Cersei of Ned's plans to leave the city. In the TV show it is never declared how Cersei knew and was prepared for the stand off (all though it could be assumed that Littlefinger told her).

It would be brilliant perhaps they will do a spin off if the tv show catches up to the books or they deliberate about ordering a full season eg similar to the Babylon 5 movies. Still Robart would have to be played by a different actor and it's unlikely Sean Bean would return.

Don't want to read it but would he be in a position to know? It's not like the producers would have told him as it would effect his performance. Maybe speculation on the actors behalf!?

That's good to know. In a lot of cases where a massive secret is revealed about a tv character its kept from the actor in question so not to affect his performance and tip off the audience in some subtle way. Mind that been said it will have to be revealed in the books first sooner or later!
