winter jacket

The warmest is down. But the UK is too wet for it and doesn't even get that cold. Personally I wear a thick merino wool long sleeve tshirt thing, a midweight fleece or wool jumper, and a thin fleece lined softshell.
 
Personally I wear a ls thermal baselayer, a ss coolmax baselayer and ls tshirt.

Jacket is a stormkloth camo, withstands most weather, not quite full on waterproof but no jacket is.
but it's quilted and very comfy.
Spent all day with that combo, along with stormkloth trousers and running tights whilst walking all over exmoor.

Good as come midday I could throw off a couple thin layers when it warmed up.

I reckon -10 is comfortable with that little lot.

It looks smart but I didn't think it would be terribly warm. I was wrong, it's really warm - I've used it in Poland, Austria, Latvia, Slovakia and Croatia this winter in temps down to about -10 and it's been great. Not sure how waterproof it is as we've only had light showers.

I have the same... Wearing it over anything more that a long sleeved t shirt results in massive overheating!
Great bit of kit though for the money

And a lumberjack shirt? I guess you definitely wouldn't be considered chavvy but still... :p

As mentioned in a previous thread it really depends on what you’re planning on doing. Layers aren’t great if you’re just going out shopping , walking to work or a friends house. One or two thicker layers is better than several thinner layers for that IMO.

A single thicker jacket with potentially a waterproof over the top for wet days is going to be a better bet.
 
Layers definitely do the biz. Yesterday was very cold but I was outside working on the car. It was dirty work so I wore old clothes: A cotton grandad top, then a thermal jumper followed by a hoodie type jacket without a hood. It was toasty warm and not as bulky as a big winter jacket.

Don’t get the Vega then! It’s crazy warm. Its like walking around wrapped in your duvet. The hood acts as an amazing pillow for sleeping on the train as well lol.
 
I've just bought a Montane Black Ice jacket, you can get them online for ~£130. It's nice and comfy, the hood is so soft it feels like you've a cloud on your head :o. Like Rab it's also a British brand. I similarly wouldn't call it a chavvy brand, unlike North Face / Superdry etc, which are more mainstream.
