Winter Olympics

They said her sleigh was paid for by fund raising in her village, no wonder we never win any medals, great goverment funding.

yes but perhaps with a bit more national interest inminority sports and we wouldnt need massive government spending, look at the aussies, i dont think that they get massive spending in all the sports that they are competetive in they just get out there and do them.,

she did a sterling job, regardless of anything else, she competed and was very competetive!
We have two fellas in the skeleton tomorrow, first run at 1630 and second at about 1800 GMT iirc. They havent been doing to badly at all in training.

Btw, anyone see Plushenko's free skate? a case of omfg if ever i saw one. I thought his short programme was excellent (as reflected in his scores) but this was something special.

Well done. Shes a bit of a hottie too :o

The guy that one the gold meddal for Australia in the mogals was infact a millionair :p

Some sports get funding, some much much more then others though.

Winter sports are only just starting to catch on here and become popular because of the golds we have got in the winter olympics and this one. Could have something to do with we dont get snow here apart from some mountains :p

UK doing absymally in the olympics again? what a shock.

Not surprising really. Facilities are bad enough for people to train for the Summer games, but facilities for Winter events are a joke.

Wow! Did anyone just watch the snowboard-cross or something... was a great final.

Firstly one competitor landed a jump poorly and fell over, that left 3 competitors well ahead with the leader about 3 seconds ahead (thats a lot).

The other 2 competitors were fighting for second and whilst going round a bank one of them lost grip and flew of the course and through a fence, looked painful but she is probably fine.

That meant the leader was about 4 seconds ahead with the last jump to go, as she jumped she tried showboating, did a grab of some sort and totalled! Other competitor flew past and won! Lol, she must have felt a right plank!

Was brilliant! I was applauding to myself by the end! :D

Agreed.
The lack of funding for athletes or members of minority sports in the uk is appalling.
The GB Ice Hockey team couldn't even afford to try out for the olympics.
Not that they're good enough for the olympics due to the lack of a well funded/structured junior development program in the uk.

I'd also add a lack of snow possibly doesn't help;) (heck there isn't even a hill near me for at least 30 miles)

Dry slopes ;)

Ok so not ideal, but if there were more of them and to a higher standard then it would help.

Sadly its not just that..It seems like the UK has lost all sense of competitiveness...

If one of our people does badly we always make up excuses and say 'ah well, they tried their best' and then write it off as yet another failure. Weve become a nation of losers...Its ingrained in our national psyche now.
