Hi,

Recently got back into road cycling after picking up a second hand cannondale supersix, just under 2 months of riding and I'm back up to 50mile rides and starting to regain some of my old fitness.

However my supersix is too nice to ride the country lanes when damp and wet (especially once the roads get salted) so I'm looking for a winter bike, basically something that has eyelets for full mudguards with at least enough clearance for 25c tires and preferably rim brakes.

Ideally would like to buy second hand and certainly don't want to spend more than £1k, failing that I'll be looking at buying a smart turbo trainer for some indoor sessions.

There are plenty of decent mudguards out there that you can fit without specific mounts and will accommodate 25/28's no problem.
Crud Road Racers.
SKS Raceblades.

I'd just look around second hand bikes in a size you think will be OK and try them out. Some decent bargains to be had. You could probably find a full carbon frame with OK wheels with a 105 groupset for well under your £1k to be honest.

I got a Bianchi Nirone 7 the other year with a full Campag groupset, carbon forks on it. Used it as winter bike for 4 years and paid the grand total of £300 for it.

If you're going to spend a grand I would say try bag a bike for £5-600 and spend the rest on a second hand Wahoo Kickr/TacX Neo and get the Canondale on that. All bases covered.

I've recently built a Croix de Der as a new winter commuter. It actually became a higher end build than I anticipated as a through axle frame arrived, but it will still be for winter and commuting. I like the shorter reach and higher stack for a winter bike in comparison to my summer road bike. They have lots of mounts and fit tyres to 38c. Second hand ones seem reasonable and within your budget.

I’d recommend what I have :o a Kinesis T3.

Why stuck with rim brakes? Disc are far better in the wet.

Yeah I was thinking of building a kinesis as I found one in my size, but the T3 is for rim brakes.... reason is I was going to use the existing wheels I have on the winter bike and upgrade them on my supersix next year for dry riding only.
