I am speccing up a new PC and i intend to dual boot between Linux (Ubuntu) and XP...
The idea is that i will use Ubuntu for general usage and then XP just for gaming.
The only thing that worries me about Linux is the ability to watch and record TV easily using the Hauppauge PVR-150MCE.
Usage wise i will be watching TV far more than recording but i would still like decent functionality for recording.
I understand that MythTV is very good for this but i really can't be bothered with the whole front end JUST to record/watch programs.
The best program i have found for what i want would be Kaffeine but that is a KDE based app, i know it should be fairly easy to run this on Ubuntu but i was wondering if there are any GNome based apps that offer similar functionality? Or am i just gonna have to go with Kaffeine even if it is just to record.... and use another GNome based app to watch?
MPlayer has the ability to to show TV but afaik you need an external app to change channel and then you still can't record, is that true?
My other option is to use Windows to record (i was gonna go with MCE but i can just go with xp home to save money and use the supplied software to record) but as i want to be leaving the PC on linux for most of the time, having to switch to XP to record will be a pain.
hope that is not too confusing
thanks
