Hi,
I have a windows XP machine which is failing to boot into XP, it was working OK yesterday but fails to boot to XP today.
It will boot as far as processing some BIOS steps then goes to a black screen indicating missing data in C:\Windows\System 32\Config\System
There is then a message to insert a Windows O/S disk, reboot and then press R to initiiate recovery. However, when I try this and press R in just goes to a C:\Windows prompt and fails to initiate any recovery.
I tried the system recovery disks that I made when I bought the machine and the PC Doctor program on these system recovery disks diagnoses a hard disk error code HD521-2W. The only option for recovery with these disks will result in the removal of the aftermarket programs that I have installed and I do not wish to lose these if it can be avoided as a reinstall of all these would be a pain.
Is there anyway that I can find out what system files are corrupt or are not being read from the hard drive so that I can copy them over from another WinXP machine?? Alternatively, any other ideas most appreciated.
Thx
Bintos
