WINxp Photo Thumbnails

I have all my photos set as thumbnails in their respective folders, but without fail, when i open a particular folder, the thumbnails are tiny, and the actual photos cannot be identified until i ' select all ' > ' View ' > ' Refresh thumbnail ' and then all photo thumbnails become the right size.

This happens to nearly every photo in all folders. Sometimes there maybe say, 5 thumbnail photos out of 20 in a folder that are displayed at the right thumbnail size, but the other 15 are too small and fuzzy, so the refresh action has to be taken.

I checked in folder views in control panel and ' cache thumbnails ' is NOT checked. I also did a file search for ' thumbs.db ' as i read they could be deleted and this would cure the problem, but the search found no such files

Anyone know whats going on ? I have a 2nd hard drive running as Drive F which i store copies of photos on, and the same thing happens in there too

Just gonna try again for answers with this prob, as i still havent got
anywhere with this. I've tried a few places for answers, but it seems quite
rare judging by the responses ( or lack of )

some are the right size thumbnails and some havent
refreshed to the right size, and some are not even a thumbnail yet. I've googled this, but the particular problem does not come up at all.

I normally just select all, and click refresh, and this of course works,
but its irritating to have to do this every time ( yes everytime ) i open a
photo / picture folder

Here's a screenshot of what any photo folder looks like when first opening

I have to manually refresh to get them to display the proper thumbnails as below

Look in Properties of C: > Disk Cleanup and tick Thumbnails in the list to purge thumbnails cache and see if it refreshes any quicker.

I dont have thumbs caching as i thought this was part of the problem, so i opted out of that. Before that, i deleted all thumbs.db. No change, either with thumbs caching or not.

Only other thing from the days of Windows 2000 was running command

regsvr32 thumbvw.dll

Have a search and a read first though as never tried it on XP or Vista...

Just a thought - running Win XP but i use Firefox....that anything to do with it ??

It doesnt seem likely to me, but worth mentioning

Not sure as I prefer IE. I thought you have Vista running but on looking again, it looks like you're viewing picks in firefox - is that right? I thought the screenshots were the usual explorer view... or is it? Dont recognise the record stop pause play buttons along the top...
PS what service pack do you have installed?

Ah, that pause stop thing is something called Freecorder, and is just a toolbar for grabbing tracks that might play on websites you visit. Nothing mysterious there, Nano !

As for viewing folders ( not individual pics ) its just Win XP or whatever that opens them. Once you click on an individual photo, something like Windows Fax and Picture Viewer opens them by default with Win XP. I have a different viewer called Infranview. But then that doesnt come into the equation until i open an individual photo. My problem is just viewing a folders' thumbanils before even looking at any photo.

My Service Pack No. 3

Cheers

Still no joy...

Another screenshot after opening my wildlife photo folder. This screenshot is was after 7 minutes to see what happened. This is how they remained.
The only thumbnails that appeared properly sized are the Coot jpg and the FemHsparrow jpg. The others are all in various states of...well a couple of them are... i dont know what. 1 is even missing completely. Thats the blank space on row 3 far left

The thumbnails sizes are set. Its not the size - its the fact that they dont refresh properly, and googling the problem reveals nothing ( that i've found anyways )

Ok - as you suggested i have got tweak and reset from 100 to 90, and set lower quailty, but the message reads that only new thumbnails will be adjusted ??

Well i reset " cache thumbnails " too as this was disabled before. Makes no difference. Tweak has done nothing either. I've just opened another folder of photos, and there's no change. Of 15 photos, only 5 were correct thumbnail size, the rest were like in the other posts here, and 1 didnt bother even becoming a thumbnail at all.

I just dont get it - there's obviously something more mysterious at foot, like some kind of conflict or a bad setting somewhere
