Wiping locked iphone

Work iphone, user has handed it back to us to give to someone else, but as usual with users, they cant remeber their own passcode.

I cant configure device for new user without being able to get in to handset.

Any one know how to wipe the phone to clear the passcode?

I really do need to get this wiped guys.

I tried putting in to recovery mod, by holding down the home button whilst booting and then connecting to itunes, but itunes doesnt regocniser the device in recovery mode.....

I'd give DFU mode a go, Plenty of guides on Google

If it's got activation lock on then you'll need that person to stick around and put their Apple ID in before you can use the device again.

Can't you just reset the passcode from whatever MDM you're using?

IOS 6 you could DFU restore it - not on IOS7 though?

Yeah what is it asking? If it's the iOS 7 activation lock. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5818

I get it all the time, people activate it, forget their password and can't remember the password to their recovery email address either.
