Hi,

I am moving into my new home this week and I need to sort out my internet connections.

I will have cable internet and it will be set up with entry point at front living room where my TV and TV media center is. However, my study is upstairs and I play a lot of games that needed low "ping". I also stream a lot of HD video etc from computer in my study to the living room.

I wired my last home with cat cable but this time around tech have moved on so much. Is the wireless N stuff fast and reliable enough for what I need or should I go for the power line stuff? or should I just stick with cat5 cable which is a big hassle !!!

I am confused

I get around 45Mbit/sec throughput on my powerline network, so it's better than 802.11G in practice and a bit slower than I have found my 802.11n Netgear router to be over wireless - although it is more stable.

To be honest though if you can cable you may as well do so, a good gigabit switch costs less than £50 now and will leave any wireless/powerline system cold in terms of real world speeds - out of the box it was hitting 400Mbit/sec and I've not yet had the chance to properly configure network cards for jumboframes etc. :)
