I was trying to get an app on my Ipod touch working, it's a remote app that controls itunes on the pc, so i can sit out in the garden and control the music coming from the stereo inside
the pc is wired to the router, obviously the ipod is wireless
I couldn't get the app to work but have now connected the pc to the router with a wireless adapter and it all works fine now

anyone got any idea why i need to use the adapter ? when it's connected with the network cable it's still on the same network so don't see why it doesn't work

ideas anyone ?

You sure it doesn't put wireless devices in a different subnet? Have you compared the IP/subnet mask when connected wired and wirelessly?

this is from ipconfig...

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Belkin
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 2:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Belkin
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.169.4
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.169.1

the ip and gateway is different but how do I change that ? i looked through the router settings (it's a belkin) but not sure what to change

I'm not sure without knowing which router you have etc but I imagine there will be some dhcp server options somewhere?

If you let me know the model of the router I could try and help out a bit more

Cheers

it's a belkin Play Max N600 HD

there's lan settings, dhcp client list and static routing, then different things you can alter in each of those, have tried a few things but no joy yet

cheers for the help!

I know some routers seperate the wireless and wired traffic. Last one I looked at had an option to enable wireless to talk to wired, think it was called wireless isolation. My BeBox has it and annoyed me at first till I turned it off, one mine it was under the advanced settings.

The description for the router says it has two wireless radios so you can run a guest network that isolates devices from your usual LAN. It sounds like you are connecting to this?

I can't say exactly but I would just check the router settings page for anything related to wireless to start with, does anything mention guest isolation, wireless isolation etc? If so try disabling this feature?

Cheers

You need to have a look for VLAN settings in your router page,
The Orange Bright Box can have up to 3 Vlans and each is treated as its own networks and so would have its own ip range.

This is how it looks in the Orange router.

You might find your wireless is on another VLAN from the wired connection.
