I am wanting to change some of my wireless connections to wired. One for my PS3 and the other for future tv. My router is upstairs next to pc, wired connection. My ps3 and tv are downstairs.

What would i need to run 2 cables from upstairs to downstairs? Also would need 2 (Think they call them wallpates) for the patch cables to plug into.

need to know...

what type of cable
Connectors
Special tools (If any needed)

Thank for the link:)

Don't really want ot use Powerline plugs. Have too many plugs in downstairs already, also would need 2 for the 2 connections needed downstairs.

I do want to just run faceplate to faceplate then just be able to plug a patch cable from them to the ps3 etc..

Cat5e should be adequate
Is there just 1 type of this cable? Also what is Cat6 cable?

You don’t strictly speaking need to install two cables. You could just use one and hang a network switch off the end of it
Would this give me 2 connections available at the same time?

Thanks again for the info. :)

Cat5e is Cat5e. It comes in stranded and solid core versions, choose the correct type for your application as per my earlier reply.
You mention stranded if using plugs. If i am just going to connect it to the face plates would it be the same (stranded)?

Thanks for that info pepp77 making it easier for me to understand:)

A run of solid core cat5e cable (enough for the lengths you need).
I am going to need 2 connections and not really wanting to use a switch, so will i need 2 runs or still just the 1? I will be getting 2 x double faceplates 1 for each end.

Thanks bremen

Think i have found all the bits now. Just the cable was finding the best length for the best price. The 1 i posted was About £12 is that about the right price?

Need a little more help with the wires please.

I have been looking fot the cable that will go from the wallplate to the pc,ps3 and the 1 that will go from the router to the wallplate.

There seems to be a few different types..

Straight
patch
crossover

I don't know if these are all different types of cable or which type i need. Can someone help?
