going to run a cable from my router to the other end of the house to put on a wireless extender- any recommendation for a good extender?

You mean an access point?

Anything from the Ubiquiti UniFi range is good but for your usage I would recommend the UAP-FlexHD. It’s not cheap, but it’s a fabulous omni-directional access point.

what I want to do is plug an ethernet cable into my Vodafone router- then into another wifi device at the other end of the cable that will chuck out wifi
whatever that is - its been a while lol

I asked the same question her a while ago and found a Draytek Vigor AP810 at a good price locally. It came yesterday and is working fine. it was easy to set up, despite the instructions being dreadfully inadequate. has great range, and I am happy with it. it also has additional ports so I can run a wired LAN laptop and PC off of it without messing with the cable to the router in the house. the Access point is in my outside workshop.
