Wired or Wireless?

Always hard to mold the perfect system, especially when the products are not always perfect :P But to the point...

My question is this:

Is it better to have a wired or wireless keyboard and mouse?

Wireless is very tempting, especailly with all the flashy mice available, but I am not too sure as wired is much more reponsive, the problem I am left with is that there are very few good mice that are wired that have most of today's technology.

For example, I looked at Microsoft's new High Definition Laser Mice, and they were wireless... which is abit of a shame.

Can anyone make any suggestions, though wired is my preferance...

Thanks all.

I've used a wireless set (Logitech MX3100) since the day of its release back in March 2005, and it's been absolutely fine. No lag or responsiveness issues whatsoever - works just as well as a wired set-up in games. Mouse needs re-charging about once a week, while the keyboard lasted me about a year (I think) on the same two AA batteries it came with.

Obviously there's a cost premium involved if you want to get a decent wireless set, but when all said and done, you might as well have a nice mouse and keyboard to use. That's my attitude, anyway.

I've had my Logitech Cordless iTouch keyboard and MX700 mouse for about 3 years now. Bought them second hand... and I'm still using the same batteries in the keyboard that I was 3 years ago :D

The MX700 is awesome. Even with heavy use, I can go a full week before the red LED starts flashing to show the batteries are low. This is on cheapy Ni-MH batteries.

Having the freedom to move around, and the lack of wires trailing over the desk, not to mention the excellent performance of the MX700. I don't think I could ever go back.

ive had w wireless sets. two MS and one logitech. both of the ms sets suffered with signal dropouts on both the keyboard and the mouse.

My logi set is fantastic. however the mouse was crap (2 button, bsic thing) so i bouthg a wired mx518. best of both worlds.

as for batteries, well life was execptional on all sets. ive had my logi set for about 5 months now. the keyboard runs on two tripple a's and ive changed the batteries once.

The mice should be fine, but there's sometimes a limitation on the number of buttons you can press on a wireless keyboard at the same time.

I was heavy use on the keyboard and the mouse though. Gaming and shcool work (typing those long essays out..).

I have the Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 combo. I personally find it to be quite responsive and the mouse is fairly well designed.

The battery life is often disappointing mind you. I got this at Christmas and I end up changing the batteries every 2 weeks when the keyboard input becomes slow and the mouse starts to stutter.

I have a logitech set, battery life is great, I do a lot of typing and only have to recharge the keyboard batteries once every couple of month, I put the mouse in the docking station every night so I don't need to replace the batteries in it. If your having problems with battery life you need to get 2500mah batteries.

This isn't a limitation of wireless keyboards, this is a limitation of all keyboards (wireless & wired). I'm unsure of the technical reasons, but I definately noticed problems when pressing 3 or more keys at once while playing games with my keyboard. I'm tried a couple of different keyboards (never used wireless), and they've all had the same problem, but the specific combo of keys does differ from keyboard to keyboard.

For example, while playing CS:S, my old keyboard had a problem when I was using W+D+SpaceBar+Teamspeak. My new keyboard can do that combo, it's not happy when I throw CRTL into combo.

i have got (and am using now) the microsoft multimedia wireless keyboard and the standard optical mouse. i have had them ages and i find them much more responsive and you arnt tied down with wires. ive never had to change the batteries. (had the keyboard and mouse about 3-4months :D )

I have a Logitech combination and its great! The mouse has a recharge base so no battery changes and the keyboard runs for 8-10 months on 1 charge of rechargable batteries!
I have no problem with lag, but it's a pain when the batteries go as you think it must be something else!

I have the:-
Logitech Cordless Optical Desktop Rechargeable Black/Silver - OEM (KB-058-LG) which is only £36 inc VAT from OCuk!
