Wired Router, adding Wireless AP - What Can I use?

Hi,
If I have a wired router providing broadband to a property and I wished to add wireless but didn't want to buy a wireless router I could add an accesss point right? The wired router has a built in switch so the AP could just plug directly into the wired router and would this just work from here or are there compatibility issues or anything I would need to know about?

yes it would work, thats the setup I have.

cable (isp) > wired router > AP + other machines

What Wireless AP is it that you have? A completely different make to your wired router?

I have a netgear router and a D-link AP, the make of the equipment makes no difference in terms of compatability
