Wired to Wireless connection

Hi,

I have always had my PC connected to my router through a cable however after a recent house move this is no longer possible (only socket is downstairs with my computer upstairs and the girl wont let me trail my cable through the house).

I am looking for some help with getting my computer connected to my router without a wire.

I have fairly mid spec PC (about 4 years old) and a standard BT Fibre router. Is it a case of having something plugged in to a wall socket that connects to my computer and router or would I need a wireless network card or something along those lines.

Apologies for my lack of technical knowledge this is just something I have never even thought about until now.

let me know what other information you need as I'm sure i am missing something, or likewise if this is covered elsewhere please point me to the right post.

I'd get a pair of 500Mbit homeplugs before going wireless. If you've got spare plug sockets by the router and by your PC (as in wall sockets, not off an extension) then something like these will do nicely:

Otherwise if you have no spare wall sockets and have to use an extension you'll want passthrough ones like these for example:

All you'll need to do is connect one homeplug to your router via an Ethernet cable and the other homeplug to your PC via an Ethernet cable and you're away.

Homeplugs don't really like being plugged into an extension lead hence why passthrough ones are available. They will work in an extension but just slower. I have a pair of the passthrough TP-Link ones (also came with a pair of Ethernet cables if I remember rightly) and I can pull the full speed of my Internet connection (100Mbit) through them no problem at all. They've also been solid for me with no dropouts or reboots needed.
