Just moved over from a DG834 to a DG834GT with a WG111T wireless usb adapter. Setup all went smoothly, got WEP on and restricted access to the MAC on the usb adapter.

Using the Windows wireless interface to connect, its reporting Very Good to Excellent signal from the router. The adapter gets very very hot though, not sure if they all do that though. From time to time the pc will just suddenly lose connectivity. Clicking on 'Repair' on the Usb adapter shows a 'Connection Failed' message. The only thing that seems to fix it is pulling out the adapter, waiting 30 seconds and then plugging it back in. Windows then picks it up and reconnects to the router in about 10 seconds.

Anyone got any ideas where I'm going wrong? I thought it might be to do with how I'm using the net. But it seems to do it when I'm downloading at 8mb, uploading at 50k and even when theres no traffic at all.

No ideas then anyone?

Its getting very annoying. I go to bed, get up and find out its stopped working 10 mins after I go to bed. Same thing when I get work and check, only to find out its dropped just after I left.

I used a wired connection with the previous router. Only started using the usb adpater when I got the wireless router. I'm not saying it is overheating. Just that it gets very hot. Gonna try using the Netgear software tonight instead of the Windows one. See if its any better.

I had this adapter and yes it does get that hot. Normally at the very hot point that's when it dies so you have to unplug and plug in again. Never had much joy with either software so I went for a Linksys PCI in the end. I bought it because I had a shuttle in the first place.

One useful thing to try is going into device manager and turning off any power saving options in there. It should help keep the disconnects down to a minimum.

To be honest, I haven't ever seen a wireless device that didn't need to be repaired with the windows software occasionally to reset the connection.

The repair option doesn't seem to work on this problem :(

Might have to run a cable down to it :(
