Wireless 360 controller help

Got 1 wireless controller which was working fine, now i have changed my console and it just doesnt want to connect to it, if i hold the X down it just spins around forever, then if i press the little >> button on the front it does the same, how do i get it to connect to me new console?

Are you pressing the little >> button on the controller as well as on the 360?

I press the button on the console once, then hold down the button on the pad - always works for me.

Yeah there's a little button on the front of the pad next to the quick release button for the battery pack, you have to press that. You only need to do this the one time.

After that I just hold down the xbox button on the pad, turns the console on and pad at same time
