Looking to get a 360 or PS3. Once I have dicided which one to get I would like to connect it to my PC thats upstairs and stream videos and music directly to the console downstairs (and play games obviously)...Only problem is, I dont have a wireless internet connection, its all ethernet. Is it possible I could just buy the 360 Network Adapter and one of THESE for example and the 360 could pick it up and link to my PC?...Im trying to get the most hasstle free way of connecting them together without getting a whole wireless system set up...

ethernet to your 360 for best stream quality and gaming experience. plus, the 360 wireless adapter is, imo, overpriced and low build quality

Yes you could use a 360 with wireless in conjunction with a usb/pci wifi card in your pc, using the ad-hoc mode on them you can create a one to one link. You could then share your dsl/cable connection through windows connection sharing.

Wiring an ethernet cable from my PC upstairs to my 360 or PS3 downstairs is not an option...

How about using the powerline adaptor type devices, much better bandwidth than wireless but no cat5 cable trailing down the stairs

I looked into these myself, and they're roughly equivalent to 802.11g, the signal does degrade over length just like wireless. A decent wireless setup (pre-n/n) will perform much better!

If you go for the newer (200MBps ones) then I'm sure you will get better performance than wireless without any dropout issues. I've used the older ones and found them much more reliable for streaming video content then my wireless connection
