Wireless A same as wireless AC?

Hi

I want to update the lan card on my laptio, it's easily doable as it can be reached in the gap after you remove the hard drive cover.

It's a bg standard bgn card. I want to benefit from the newly installed wireless AC router in my home.

The wireless AC half height cards cost around £25 on ebay, but there are several wireless A (a only) cards for a bit less. Are they the same stuff or will wireless a be slower than ac?
 
You answer your own question, you have an AC router so you need an AC card to get the full benefit.

Just remember that you may not see any benefit depending on what you're doing. eg if you're on an ADSL2+ product your downloads won't be any quicker than the WAN connection speed (eg 22mbit max) and if you're comparing wireless transfer speeds to other devices on the LAN then you need to consider if the router has gigabit ports or you'll be limited to 100mbit no matter how fast the wifi connection is.

Yep, I remember getting Belkin 11mbit 802.11b kit and being jealous of american's who could get a kit that was faster. That said this was in the days of 512k broadband which now wouldn't even satisfy the criteria to be classed as such.
