Wireless Access Point

I am looking to add a wireless capability into my home network (I have been a stalwart wired advocate all these years, but am finally relenting )

Atm I have a Netgear DG834 router and a Netgear gigabit switch, which 3 computers are connected through ( I do a lot of large file transfers, hence the gigabit switch)

I also have a cat6 cable run through the house into the front room to connect xbox/ps3 etc

So now I am thinking of adding a switch downstairs, so I can connect all the devices at the same time rather than swap the cable....so question :

Can I get a gigabit switch with wired & wireless capability or should I buy a switch and WAP separately?

Any recommendations on a good WAP or wireless switch....might as well look at 'n' wireless for future proofing

what is it your connecting downstairs? as if its xbox/ps3/etc then i wouldnt bother too much with gigabit as neither console supports it.
what your maybe best doing is staying cabled but get powerline adapters, ofcourse ud have to test somehow to make sure upstairs and downstairs are on the same power circuit.

can i ask why you want rid of the wires?

Ahh of course, I didnt mention that bit.

I am going to keep the wired system in place but I am looking to get a laptop and want a wireless connection in the setup.

So rather than replace the modem/router to a wireless one, I thought i would expand the system downstairs, so I came up with the idea of another switch - so I can plug the Xbox/PS3 and TV in at once and if possible it would be more convenient to have a Switch/WAP combined, if not I can get them separately
