I'm having internet issues and people have been suggesting that it could be to do with the USB dongle that i'm currently using so I'm looking to buy a new method of connecting to the wireless network. From what I've read the the USB dongle is a more convenient route but less powerful than a network card. I'm wanting as much power and the most stable connection possible. Could you suggest some products probably up to about £40.
Thanks in advance

Firstly, have you considered using Powerline adapters? They'll give you a wired connection that works over the mains wiring.

For wireless do you want a PCI or PCIe adapter? Also, what type of wireless do you need to support? If you aren't sure provide the make and model of the router.

Finally what model is the existing wireless adapter?

I'm not able to connect wired even via homeplugs because of the configuration of the network. whats the difference between the two network cards? It's a netgear WNDA 3100 N dual band

If you want an internal wireless adapter you need to know what sort of slot it'll be plugging into; it'll be PCI or PCIe. There's no point guessing as they aren't interchangeable.

It still isn't clear which wireless standards you need the adapter to support. There's no point recommending a high end adapter if the router isn't up to the job.

With the problem you're trying to fix router could be as much to blame as the wireless adapter.

But how can i find out what kind of slot it is? I honestly dont know what router i have because i have a system admin who runs that. I'm pretty sure its good.

Open the case and find out which slots are free. Then look in the user manual and see what it describes them as. Chances are you'll have at least one PCIe x1 slot available, but it's best to check.

Your search engine of choice will tell you everything you need to know about PCI and PCIe, and the differences between them.

You've currently got a dual band adapter. Are you connecting at 2.4GHz or 5GHz? If you're connecting at 2.4GHz will it accept a connection at 5GHz?
