Hi all, have just gone wireless-everything set up fine.

Broadband has been going for 9 days now.
Ive gone for the upto 8mb package, and I understand its wont be that high and all that jazz.

Now however when I do a speedtest i usally get anything between .3mb and 1mb.

But looking at my routers settings it tells me this:
ADSL Line Status

Current ADSL line status is displayed as the below.

Line Mode G.DMT Line State Show Time
Latency Type Interleave Line Up Time 00:03:00:19
Line Coding Trellis Off Line Up Count 1

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 7616 Kbps 448 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 8608 Kbps 1096 Kbps
Noise Margin 9.5 dB 23.0 dB
Line Attenuation 37.0 dB 22.0 dB
Output Power 19.7 dBm 11.8 dBm

Can anyone tell me what this means-because it looks to me like I should be connected at 7mbps!

Please help-one confused wireless n00b

When I first set up I run it with a cable, roughly the same-also the problem is to use it via cable involves large amounts of telephone extension lead as my house only has 1 socket:( :(

What do the numbers look like?

Your stats look very good. With that sync rate you should be on the 6.5mbit profile.

When did you try it with a cable? If it was a few days ago, try again. Presumably you've tried powering the router off and on again? What time of day are you performing these speed tests or is it always bad?

at various times-router is always saying that speed roughly-will try with a wire again shortly.

Thanks for the reply;)

Are there any sites with ideal wireless riouter settings?

As I think it may be a router problem, mainly the firmware update!

Is it the same transferring between two machines connected to the router, or with another machine to the internet?

Unless you've changed the settings, the defaults should be better than what you're getting, and as said your line stats look reasonable - does the SNR margin vary (downwards) much (especially when you're seeing reduced throughput)?
What ISP are you with? Tried the BT Speedtest (instructions in FAQ)?

You need to eliminate whether it's the wireless segment that's slow, the router being slow, or some part of your connection to the outside world.

bt speedtest is low-will send a file across the network and check that and post back!

just out of curiosity whats RIP and do I need it active on the internet connection and network?

sorry for the late reply-have had great fun with this-just had to reset the router!locked everything out from it-forgot to allow my wireless card! :D :D :D

Cant find a ethernet cable for the router:(

There are a hell of a lot of settings to play with in there!

also noticed on my cheaper wireless card it has the following settings:

Preamble type-currently set to auto
fragment threshold-currently set to 2346
and RTS threshold-currently 2347

Any of them look funny?

I guess it doesnt help that my router is actually a firmware cracked device-Im not going into details as I want no ban,but no one else seems to have the problems I do!

Anything you need to know just post and I shall do my best to answer!

Thanks for the help so far-and sorry I cant be more helpful in return:(

It was a ISP locked router-been flashed with a different routers firmware-but everyone with these routers have done it without problems!

lol-this is fun-I dont actually have another router-I was given this wireless router from a friend.I know it worked fine for him.

:D

Im so helpful :(
