Tomorrow I have been asked to go to a client, and set up a wireless ADSL, now I am familiar with setting up ADSL wired, no problems, but as for wireless, I have not done it before, is there anything I need to know? or specifics that has to be set up because its wireless, I have heard of a wep key, whats this, where do I find it and what do I do with it?

Thanks :)

Not a lot to know tbh.

first connect to their wireless router using a cable, go in to it's admin panel and set up the SSID (which is just the name of wireless network). Put a password on the router and set the security to WPA-PSK and set the password.

Then connect all their wireless devices to it wirelessly, using the password you set.

Once they are all working, turn off the SSID broadcast, this makes it so no one in the area will see the network when they shouldnt be.

I suggest you read up on these things before you start and tinker. If you do it wrong you might end up leaving it in a state if your not sure on configurations e.t.c.

Read up on it before hand.

You really should find out what wireless router they have and then download the manual for it and have a read.

It is not rocket science setting up the wireless but it is very good to go on site to a client prepared rather than flapping around like a headless chicken.

Also do you know how many machines they are going to be running on the wireless and what OS's the machines will be running .

What wireless adapters they have and do they have the relevant drivers already or are you going to be installing everything for them ?
