Wireless bridge

Hey networking wizards, I need to pick your brains.

Basically I'm moving into a shared flat that has a wireless router/modem that supplies internet to the flat.
I have a main PC and a server that I use for media, storing photos and backups, neither of these computers have a wireless NIC or dongle as I've been using gigabit Ethernet. I'm not really willing to lose the gigabit speed between my computer and server as I'm often transferring a few Gb of photos one way or the other and don't want to have to wait 15-20 times longer while they transfer at 54Gbps.

What I'm planning on doing is getting a wireless bridge with a gigabit switch built in so I will in effect have a wired Network in my room connected via the wireless bridge to the wireless router/modem.

However I have some questions. Both the router/modem and my bridge/switch will need to be in bridge mode, correct? Would being in bridge mode still allow others to connect to the router/modem using their computers?
Also any recommendations for a good wireless bridge with a gigabit switch built in? or would a wireless router be easier to come by and do the job the same?
Edit: Oh, I'd need 3 or more gigabit Ethernet ports (2 PCs + PS3) :) I know it's not going to be cheap but that's fine.

Ta, Col

I tried to setup a similar thing but got nowhere with getting either of my routers running as a bridge. In the end i got 2 of those powerline adapters, one connected to the router, one connected to my switch, the adapters don't even need to be expensive ones since you only need them to go as fast as the internet connection.

I got such a poor signal in my bedroom (due to metal beams) that I had to cable it in the end to the router.

Wireless is convienent for people who use messenger, facebook etc etc but online FPS and streaming it can (as in if your signal isn't very good) drop out all over the place and be a PITA.

I would use a wired switch, simply because wired can't really mess you about.

I didn't actually think about the powerline option, like you say it only needs to be as fast as the internet anyway so a cheap 85Gbps one will do fine then just get a standalone gigabit switch.

I do have an aversion to using wireless so that's a good option :)
